The alternator belt on my 1988 VW Vanagon blew out in Childress. Hill's Motors towed me in. I was worried since it's not a Vanagon-specific shop, but I didn't really have too many options. Fortunately the mechanic there was familiar with these vans. He could have just put a new belt on and sent me on my way, but instead he found the root of the problem (my alternator bearing) and we ordered a new alternator, which they hung and put on some new relays for me. He also checked for coolant leaks and took the time to explain everything he was doing to me, which I greatly appreciated.
